Leftover Hardwood Flooring Becomes Gorgeous Viking-Style Stein

Beautiful raw materials can spark such wildly creative DIY projects.

When Instructables user sir_ghattas‘s uncle gifted him the leftover hardwood flooring planks from a recent home renovation, this builder took his time deciding how best to repurpose his bounty into something new and useful.

After staring at the pile long enough, this upcycler devised an excellent plan. He would use the leftover hardwood flooring to build a Viking-style stein!

To kick off his project, he sliced a few of the hardwood pieces into eight equally size bits. Then, he angled each piece appropriately to fit into his circular mug design.

Glued together, sealed in polyurethane, and outfitted with a rustic handle, his unique mug came to life, brimming with Nordic charm.

Now, he has the perfect one-of-a-kind mug to take with him on adventures.

Recently, Instructables user sir_ghattas‘ uncle gifted him planks of hardwood flooring, left over from a recent home renovation.

Grateful for the gorgeous raw materials, and determined not to let them lay unused for long, this upcycler soon decided he’d repurpose them into a new, rustic-feeling, Viking-style stein.

He started his build by cutting eight equally size pieces out of the hardwood, as well as an octagonally shaped base.

He chose to offset the mug’s bottom from its base.

So, this DIY-er cut equally spaced indentations into each of the eight mug pieces, on which the bottom octagon would rest.
